✦DISA MÄRTA SUNNERSTAM✦

FUTHARKENDecember, 2025, AmsterdamI love the mystics of old Norse and Scandinavian folklore and mythology. I also feel great sorrow that it is mostly forgotten today. This deck of cards is inspired by the famous Tarot cards. The Futhark is a collective name for the written languages with runes used by the Germanic people in northern Europe. The oldest Futhark consisted of 24 characters that not only functioned as a written language but could also be carved into wood or weapons. According to various sources, the individual characters also had meanings beyond just letters. They could protect you, motivate you, remind you, give you power or perseverance. There are also sources that they could be used for telling the future, but there is no academic evidence for that. The deck contains one card for each rune, the illustrations are based on the rune’s meaning, universal and new symbols.
